About That Income Tax Bill…

Back when I got my start in politics, TEA stood for “taxed enough already.” I fundamentally believe we still are over-taxed.

A good conservative principle is that taxes should be as broadly-based and as low-rate as possible. We have anything but in South Carolina. Special interests have all “got theirs” and made Swiss cheese of the tax code.

Every exemption, every credit, every bracket, every accommodation shifts the tax burden off someone (more often than not, a wealthier-than-you someone) onto someone else. More often than not, someone that looks a lot like you.

It shows how out of touch the House Republican Caucus is when they propose a bold tax “reform” that slashes the state income tax from 6.2% to 3.99%… that actually raises taxes on 60% of people.

It might look like a tax cut from the politician’s perspective. It won’t look like a tax cut when your taxes double (single filer, $40,000/yr) or triple (married filing jointly, $48,000/yr)!

The point of tax reform is to lower the rate… not for a favored 20%, but for everyone.

If they were serious about income tax reform, they would have left the standard deduction and itemized deduction intact, and lowered the rate without mucking around with your taxable income formula.

Don’t be the fool these fools think you are. Don’t fall for their lies and tricks.
